Comic Influences PDF Print E-mail
jiffy01When comedian Bob Nelson brings big laughs to the Little River high school gym on April 1st, 8pm, the jokes and stunts he shares all come from a deep well of personal influences and experiences.

"My Dad was an alcoholic," Nelson shares about his childhood days in
Long Island, New York. "When he came home drunk, I'd act like a monkey to
change his mood."

That entertainment instinct blossomed as Nelson grew up. Nelson was a theater major in college -- and made money playing a clown at private parties. Later, as an employee of an advertising business, Nelson would arrange pranks with unsuspecting customers to the amusement of his co-workers.
Once Nelson made the plunge into full-time comedy, he teamed up in the late
1970's with then unknowns Rosie O'Donnell and Eddie Murphy to form the
"Laughter Company." Increased notice launched everyone's career onto
different paths.

Bob's career got a big boost when he appeared on Johnny Carson's "Tonight
Show." After one appearance, Carson remarked, "You won't laugh harder
in five or six minutes than at that guy, Bob Nelson."

Rodney Dangerfield jump started Bob's cable television career by putting him in two of his own HBO specials. "The Ninth Annual Young Comedians Special", where Bob presented his classic football piece, and "It Ain't Easy Bein' Me", where he introduced us to one of his most popular characters... Jiffy Jeff!
Bob went on to do two more HBO specials, this time they would be solo
performances, the half hour "One Night Stand" and then his innovative
one hour special "Nelson Schmelson".

And why doesn't Bob Nelson cuss? "Red Skelton," Nelson says. "He
said I was talented enough; I didn't need to."

A night with comedian Bob Nelson is Branson-style entertainment, right on Little River's doorstep. You don't want to miss it!

The April 1st show takes place at the Little River High School gym. Show time is 8:00pm. Tickets are free and available through the Congregational, United Methodist, and Catholic churches of Little River. Tickets can also be obtained
from most Little River Main Street businesses.
